1200 Calorie Diet for Diabetics

Remember Wilford Brimley? The guy who did most of the commercials for diabetic products and treatment. Sometimes, when I see him on the television, I couldn't help but to think how serious diabetes is in our country. There is a high chance that you or someone you know might be afflicted with this disease. Once diagnosed with diabetes, there is nothing much we can do about that. The best way to go about this situation is to watch our diet. Again, which method is most effective? Counting calories! Stick to the 1200 calorie diet plan.

So, for diabetic patients, the game plan for the 1200 calorie diet would be slightly different. The key here is to maintain a healthy blood sugar level so that you do not slide into a state of diabetic shock. The most effective way to maintain blood sugar level will be to make sure that the sugars you take are in the form of natural sugars. Natural sugars are mostly found in breads, fruits and vegetables. If your sugar intake usually comes from corn syrup, you must stop right now because they are the main reason why you get diabetes in the first place. In fact, doctors and most medical practitioners are strongly against high fructose corn syrup consumption.

Carrots should always be a big part of your 1200 calorie diabetic diet plan. It is sweet and it helps regulate your body's insulin level. For this to work, you must eat a handful of carrots for lunch and you can have them as snacks throughout the day.

The key to a successful 1200 calorie diabetic diet is careful planning. It is always better to space out calories and sugars throughout the day and eat them in small doses. You do not want to skip meals and gorge later. By now, you should already know that skipping meals is an extremely dangerous plan. You can ruin your health by doing that. So, control your blood sugar level on an ad-hoc basis but do not rush and do it all at once.

Also, it is a bad idea to just have cereals for breakfast. Have a good combination of cereals, eggs and a piece of fruit. If you dislike eggs, you can always replace it with cottage cheese. But remember, you car counting calories here! So, always use the low fat cottage cheese instead of the regular ones. The general rule is to keep a balanced diet and you should be very well on your way to combat the disease.

By the way, a balanced meal is defined as a meal with proteins, carbs, fruits and vegetables and a little bit of fat. Make sure you do not overdo things and you shall be on the right track for your 1200 calorie diabetic diet plan.
